Laffit Pincay, Jr. was inducted in to the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame in 1975.  He is also credited with winning the Kentucky Derby in 1984 with the horse Swale, along with three consecutive Belmont Stakes wins in 1982, 1983, and 1984.
On December 10, 1999 Pincay, Jr. broke the career victory record that was held by Bill Shoemaker when he took his 8,834th win at Hollywood Park Racetrack in California.  Because of this win, Hollywood Park Racetrack created the Laffit Pincay, Jr. award in 2004, which is presented each year on Hollywood Gold Cup Day.  This award commemorates Pincay, Jr.’s winning that particular race a record of nine times.
When Pincay, Jr. retired in April of 2003, he was horse racing’s most winning jockey of all time, with his total of 9,530 career victories.  This record was broken a few years later, however, on December 1, 2006 by Russell Baze.
